Spectra Academy has been awarded a $2,500 grant from the Daniel J. Fiddle Foundation, based in Ridgewood, NJ. The grant will be used to support an innovative pilot project in which students will create their own graphic novels after receiving training in computer software and fiction writing. The program is slated to start in late September 2010 and will run for twelve weeks. Classes will meet for two hour sessions Saturday mornings and are open to high school aged students and young adults. The Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation is the only national foundation that serves adults with autism spectrum disorders. Its mission is the development of programs that help adults with ASD participate in and contribute to community life. Programs funded by the Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation can be found throughout the United States. More information on the Daniel J. Fiddle Foundation can be found at http://www.djfiddlefoundation.org or by contacting info@djfiddlefoundation.org.
